Located on the edge of                                                    makes enjoying nature a breeze, whether it's dirt bikes, hiking
or enjoying Ratcliff lake it is worth checking out.
Located near                                          on the El Camino Real highway aka                                  lies Neches Bluff in the
Davy Crockett National Forest. This is a beautiful section where on can take a 1/2 mile or so hike into the trail and see
the Dogwoods or fall foliage. This is probably the prettiest section of the                 The trail runs around 20 miles each
way.

                     is a 45 minute ride and is a larger city than Crockett. There are too many events and attractions to list.
There is a great Chinese restaurant that will challenge any we have eaten at. Giovannis is a nice little Italian restaurant
with a quaint atmosphere. The                          in the old section of town is another of our favorites. Their delicious

                        is home to the Peanut Festival which draws thousands of visitors every year.
is home of the world famous Blue Grass festival which last three days over the labor day weekend. They have many
additional events and festivals. A new addition to Grapeland is the                                               . Parents and children
alike will enjoy driving through the grounds and checking out the Zebras, Camels, Antelope etc.

             is a small town that is home of the Love Fest. Moms Café is a small family owned business that provides great
meals for the money. Walking in, one can't help notice that the greenhouse style entry has tables nestled in various
locations. There is also a water garden with running water. Seating is available inside as well,

                                                                                     is located past Grapeland on 227. It is one of the prettiest
                                         country roads in the area. Coming into Augusta you will notice some flag poles on the right
                                         side. Pull into ths area and read the historical markers. They tell a few stories such as the
                                         one in the picture adjacent to this writing. A 50 yard stroll down the dirt road across from
                                         the flags brings you to the Stage Coach that is still in remarkable condition.

                                                      is located between Grapeland and Palestine. There are a few restaurants in the
area.                                                 is close to Elkhart and worth the trip. It is a magical area that has a reproduction of
the original church as well as a historical graveyard.

       lies between Crockett and Grapeland on Hwy 19. There is a small
general store that serves good food. The school and City hall are located off
of 19 at the flashing light.

        is located about 6 miles east of Grapeland. Byrds country store serves
some fantastic food for the money. I highly recommend this establishment

                        is a larger town. Aside from having a mall and enough stores to satisfy even the most avid shopper it
offers a large assortment of fine eateries. Perhaps the gem of Lufkin would be the                            It has the features

                                  is located between Houston and Dallas on I-45. When you ask most local what Centerville means
the will say Woodys Barbeque   with store on both sides of the freeway and a large variety of goods it is a favorite with
both the locals and the travellers. Travel towards hwy 75 to see the old town section. Heading south on 75 you will find
Fort Boggy State Park where you can enjoy a nice uncrowded park to eat you Barbeque lunch!!

                    was named after Davy Crockett who reportedly had camped nearby on his way to the
Alamo. The courthouse sets in the middle of the square and is surrounded by antiques shops,
restaurants and businesses.
If one has the opportunity to see a movie at the        they will be amused to see the owner offering
birdseed and grease (Popcorn and butter) and feel at least a little nostalgic when the curtain is
raised before a show. A short walk will take one up to the Moose head café where people on
amazingly busy square seem to gather for lunch and gossip.
Authentic Mexican food can be had at M.L.A. where (I think) the worlds best corn tortillas are
served. Beckys bakery serves delicious baked goods a well as meals. The Side Street Café serves
lunches and is open some evenings.                         serves a delicious meal in a beautifully
restored building. They also have a beautiful courtyard with water gardens and outdoor fires to
enjoy your meal by. Lees China Inn serves reasonably priced Chinese food in a quaint setting. The
Brookshire Brothers is within walking distance of the square. On the way stop at Waynes world,
play some arcades or hit some baseballs.
When we venture out to the loop that surrounds the town we will hit the newer businesses. Walmart.
H.E.B., Tractor Supply, Baskins, Beals and numerous fast food establishments.

Get out and explore! The historical Downes Alldrich home can be toured and is within an easy walk
of the square. The many beautiful Bed and Breakfast homes can be admired on foot or by road.

Enjoy the library, work out at Muscles and Curves Gym or perhaps Curves for Women.

Perhaps the top event would be Christmas on the Square. It takes place the Saturday before
Thanksgiving and has food Vendors, shops and a great car and motorcycle show. It is truly a worth
wile event that draws visitors from many miles.

Of course one can visit the Civic Center and enjoy some first rate performances.
Check out the schedule of               the Piney Wood Fine Arts Association provide to the community
each year. You may notice a number of free shows at the Davy Crockett Park where you can sit in
the shade and enjoy some fine entertainment.

The                                is really worth looking into. The Gillette Brothers own the building and
perform there on occasion. You will recognize many of the performers past and present.

There is a Heritage days festival in November, Christmas in Crockett is the Saturday before
Thanksgiving, The Fiddlers Festival in June. The county Fair and Rodeo. Unfortunately I am unable
to confirm the dates at this time. You may get some help from Crockett Chamber of Commerce.
There is a brief listing for the "Lovefest" the second week of February in the town of Lovelady.

The Texas State Rairoad is a must see when visiting East Texas. Touted as the worlds longest and
most narrow Park. The towns of Palestine and Rusk are connected by the rail line these vintage
steam engines run on. Dinner rides and shows are also offered.
The spring and fall are terrific times to view the Dogwoods and the foliage respectively.
